ReOrbit launches OrbitCloud R&D programme with €4,6 million from Business Finland

HELSINKI, FINLAND – ReOrbit, a Finnish satellite manufacturer specializing in GEO-based critical communications and next-generation LEO Direct-to-Device (D2D) connectivity, today announced the launch of its OrbitCloud R&D programme. Business Finland has granted EUR 4,6 million in funding for the initial phase of the initiative, which accelerates ReOrbit’s strategy to scale advanced satellite capabilities. The total value of the programme is projected to exceed EUR 40 million.
As European nations rapidly scale investments in sovereign defence and resilient national infrastructure, the demand for secure satellite connectivity has surged. The OrbitCloud programme meets this critical market demand with advanced satellite technology.
Sethu Saveda Suvanam, CEO and Founder of ReOrbit: "We are grateful for Business Finland's continued support and their belief in what we are building. OrbitCloud represents a fundamental shift in how satellite infrastructure delivers intelligence. By combining Direct-to-Device connectivity with orbital AI inference, we are creating a space-based edge computing network that puts real-time intelligence directly in the hands of operators — without reliance on terrestrial infrastructure. This programme accelerates our ability to scale that capability at a critical moment, as demand for sovereign, secure satellite systems reaches an inflection point across Europe and beyond."
Kimmo Kanto, Director, Space, Defence and Connectivity at Business Finland: “A key role of Business Finland is to enable ambitious initiatives by sharing risk with companies and accelerating investment in new technologies. Companies like ReOrbit build telecommunications capabilities that are critical to Finland, strengthening our global competitiveness and laying the foundation for new growth sectors.”
OrbitCloud: Private satellite network for defence and industry
OrbitCloud is a Private satellite network providing D2D connectivity for drones and mobile devices, uniquely combined with orbital AI inference for fast intelligence.
Direct-to-Device (D2D) satellite connectivity leverages 3GPP Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) standards to deliver low-latency links directly to commercial user equipment, eliminating the need for complex terrestrial ground infrastructure. This architecture ensures resilient, high-availability, and privately controlled communications for critical needs.
Integrating D2D with orbital AI creates a space-based edge computing network. AI inference happens within a mesh network of processors operating together with intelligent workload orchestration. Utilizing low-latency Inter-Satellite Links (ISLs) for parallel processing and fault tolerance, this architecture delivers real-time intelligence directly to drones and mobile devices.
ReOrbit has consistently remained at the forefront of software-defined space engineering. Following a recent EUR 150 million contract for two small GEO satellites with SLI, the company is aggressively expanding its regional production facilities and engineering talent base to meet the rising global demand for independent, secure satellite infrastructure.
